Watersports Instructor Training
Each year, we train, assess and qualify hundreds of paddlers, sailors and windsurfers through their British Canoe Union and Royal Yachting Association personal competency and coaching awards.
During the autumn and winter period we run a multitude of BCU/UKCC courses ranging from UKCC L1 courses, aimed at relative newcomers to the sport, through to Level 3 coach training and assessment courses aimed at our future River Leaders and Senior Watersports Instructors.
Other courses may include White Water Safety and Rescue courses, Swift Water Rescue Course, and 5* and Raft Guide training and assessment. During the season, we aim to run assessments for staff who completed their training courses with PGL at the start of the season.
April sees our intensive French pre-season training course take place for sailors, at one of our Mediterranean centres, and for paddlers at our Ardèche centre, Segries.
To join our sail training, you will need to already hold a minimum of your RYA Seamanship Award. All courses and qualifications are accredited by the RYA and include Assistant Instructor, Dinghy Instructor and Senior Instructor as well as Multi-Hull and Keelboat endorsements and safety boat awards.
RYA accredited windsurfing and BSAC snorkelling coach courses run concurrently with our French sail training. RLSS beach Lifeguard and RLSS Pool Lifeguard courses are available throughout the year.
British Surfing Association qualifications are also available for those with a suitable level of personal competency, wishing to work at our Beam House centre in the UK. Other courses run at this centre include the British Land Speedsail Association's Instructor courses.
You will not receive any wages during these courses, but you will be given free accommodation, meals and transport to France from a designated UK meeting point. All of these courses are offered to you free of charge, providing you complete your contract of employment with us. You will sign a training course loan form at the start of your course which means that you can be liable for repaying a percentage of the costs, should you leave PGL early.
