Training

We are committed to the on-going training and development of our staff team and offer a comprehensive range of training and qualification opportunities, from nationally recognised personal competency and coaching awards, First Aid at Work, PGL ‘in-house’ courses, National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships.

All in-house courses (i.e. those organised, delivered and assessed by PGL such as the PGL Activity Instructor training award) are offered free of charge. If you are enrolled on a training course that encompasses National Governing Body assessment (e.g. our sailing instructor training), you will need to sign a PGL Training Loan Form. This means that we will pay for your training course upfront in the form of a loan and providing you complete your contract of employment with us, no money will ever change hands.

Wages & Bonus Payments

We offer a competitive wage, paid four-weekly into your UK bank account. The amount you receive will depend on your job role, National Governing Body coaching/ personal competency qualifications, whether you are employed in a residential role, work full or part-time or are working in the UK, Northern France, Southern France or Spain.

Please click here for further info on our wages and qualification payments.

If you are returning to work for PGL for a second or subsequent season in 2010, you will receive an increased basic four-weekly gross wage to our Apprenticeship package. For example, if you are returning to PGL to work at a UK centre, you could earn a minimum gross starting salary of £811 per four-weekly gross if you are aged 18-21 or £947 gross for ages 22+.

Time Off

Most UK positions are based on a 42 hour, six day week. In France and Spain, all positions are based on a 48 hour, six day week. Depending on your role, you may be expected to do wake up duties, breakfasts in the kitchen or evening entertainments, but it is rare that you'll be required to start work before 8am or work later than 9pm.

Specialist Equipment

We actively encourage you to develop and progress an interest in outdoor activities. Activity equipment may be available for personal use during free time at your centre. You may be able to take activity equipment off site at the discretion of your Chief Instructor.

Your PGL Uniform

PGL has teamed up with New Zealand-based Pursuit Action Clothing to create a stylish and durable staff uniform which is provided free of charge. The uniform you are given depends on your job role, working location and contract length.

The PGL uniform range includes items such as high-specification fleeces, hooded sweatshirts, quick-drying trousers, waterproof jacket and trousers, polo shirts, shorts, t-shirts, rash vests and beanie hats. A full season UK/Northern France uniform has a retail value of around £330; this is given to our staff team free of charge.

Insurance

You are covered under PGL’s personal accident, emergency medical and public liability insurance whilst in our employment.

Please click here to download a copy of our Staff Travel Insurance policy document.

If you are working overseas you must apply for a European Health and Insurance Card to cover the £100 excess on our insurance. This also applies if you are a non-UK European working outside of your own country.

Personal belongings are not covered by company insurance. These may be covered by your or your parents' regular household and contents insurance so you may wish to look into this.

PGL's Pension Scheme

PGL offers membership of a pension scheme to all PGL staff employed continuously for three months or more.

Holiday Discounts

You are entitled to many discounts on holidays for friends and family members. You can save up to 33% off numerous products in our Adventure Holidays portfolio as well as Family Active holidays. Terms and conditions apply.

PGL Sharesave Scheme

PGL staff can take advantage of the company Sharesave scheme after a qualifying period. With the scheme, you can purchase shares in the company and cash them in the future after a fixed period, helping you to (hopefully) make a profit!

Residential Options

We offer a highly subsidised accommodation package for the vast majority of our full-time positions. Whilst the majority of our employees choose to live on-site in PGL accommodation this is by no means obligatory. We are more than happy for people to live within the local community or to commute from their family home to a PGL centre.

Living on-site gives you the opportunity to socialise with your work colleagues and enjoy the centre's facilities. There's no need to get up early for a long commute to work!

Our on-site accommodation is provided at highly subsidised rates and includes all utilities, based on deductions of £31.57 per week from your wages for the 2010 season. If you are a returning member of staff, your accommodation deductions are subsidised even further if you receive additional bonus payments on top of your regular wage.

Meal Options

The majority of people living on-site enjoy PGL's catering package, which provides you with three meals a day, seven days a week. If you are employed in a PGL apprentice role, you will receive free food in addition to your wages.

The nutritious and balanced diet we provide is based on a three-week rota of menus and ensures that you have all the energy needed for a hard days work. It also means that there is no need to travel to the supermarket, put the food away, prep the food, cook it or wash up when you've finished!

Please note that these are only a sample and actual meals may differ on-site.
