Planet Earth

Contact Earth

Aliens from the Planet Zog have found a beautiful planet teeming with life that they think can help them save their own ailing planet. This first session allows pupils to be introduced to the mission and make costumes for their transformation into the alien’s comrades. Captain Zog will contact them to ask for their help with the Planet Earth Mission.

Alternative Earth

The aliens are intrigued by alternative technologies and want to investigate how weather can be used to create power. They visit up to three different microclimates on centre and take weather measurements, at the same time as experimenting with different types of alternative technology. Choosing a country as an example, pupils make video presentations promoting one type of renewable energy.

Discovery Earth

The humanoids use all of their senses to collect information for the aliens, taking part in interactive games about the environment that require them to explore their surroundings. The groups visit different habitats around site to collect samples to send back to Zog

Fossil Earth

The aliens are amazed at how the whole planet seems to be dependent on fossil fuels, the remains of long dead plants and animals. They examine the different rocks found and discover how fossils form. The humanoids then travel to the beach and discuss the sedimentary rocks found and their formation. A fossil hunt then takes place on the beach and the role of fossil fuels is discussed.

Life on Earth

The aliens have discovered that there are more invertebrates on the planet than any other type of creature and that they have managed to adapt to live in almost any environment. Together with the humanoids they investigate how these minibeasts act as recycling agents, where they fit into food chains and investigate how the planet would not survive without them. The group explore a number of different habitats including a pond and a log pile, recording their discoveries as they go.

Marine Earth

The rocky shore is teeming with life even though it is only exposed to the air for part of the day and has numerous pressures acting upon it. The aliens and humanoids investigate the life on the shore and examine the adaptations the organisms have to cope with  - salt, temperature changes, waves, pollution and other stressors.

Terrestrial Earth

The aliens are surprised by the wide range of plants on planet Earth, and ask for the pupils' help in identifying, classifying and understanding the adaptations of plants in a variety of habitats. The pupils and aliens explore three visibly different habitats around the centre, carrying out simple experiments to identify and explain why different plants are found in different habitats.

Wasted Earth

The aliens are surprised and dismayed at the damage that humans have done to their own planet. They fear that the Earth might become as damaged as planet Zog. Together with the humanoids they investigate how the damage is caused and discover how humans can reduce the impacts they have on the environment.

Leaving Earth

Captain Zog sums up the stay by telling the goup what he has learned and asking them what they will do in the future. He warns them that planet Earth could be destroyed in the same way as planet Zog, if humans do not change their ways.
