Loch Ranza

Loch Ranza, on the Isle of Arran is PGL’s specialist Field Studies centre, catering for a wide range of courses including Geography, Geology, Biology and Environmental Science. Ardrossan Harbour is less than 1 hour by rail from Glasgow and the ferry crossing to Brodick takes approximately 55 minutes.

The Isle of Arran has been described as 'Scotland in miniature' and is recognised as one of the best locations for field work in Euope. PGL Loch Ranza has an enviable reputation as one of the finest field studies centres in the British Isles. Click here for study modules available>

Arran offers a vast array of study areas for physical geographers, while for human geographers the tourist-reliant economy and historical form and function of settlements are worthy of study. For geologists Arran offers a comprehensive introduction - with rocks spanning practically all the main periods of the last 600 million years!

Our Field Studies specialists have created an extensive range of study modules which capitalise on the stunning environments our centres are based in. Modules are tailor made to meet requirements of the five major exam boards - WJEC, OCR, Edexcel SQA and AQA.
