Loch Ranza Field Studies Centre
Loch Ranza, on the Isle of Arran is PGL’s specialist Field Studies centre, catering for a wide range of courses including Geography, Geology, Biology and Environmental Science. Ardrossan Harbour is less than 1 hour by rail from Glasgow and the ferry crossing to Brodick takes approximately 55 minutes.
A Level /Higher Certificate Field Studies
Day 1:
Arrive in the afternoon, orientation, course introduction.
Day 2: Morning - Interpreting Paleo Environments, data collection techniques and surveying methods.
Afternoon - Geological Mapping, producing maps and plotting features.
Day 3: Full day: Huttons Unconformity, investigating a world famous geological landmark, discussing the rock formation and processes occuring there.
Day 4: Morning - Mineral Resources, how rocks and minerals are used by society; Afternoon - Scramble Net and Abseiling on a rock face close to the centre.
Day 5: Depart to return to school.

PGL Field Studies courses take place in some of the most outstanding study locations around the UK. From the Isle of Arran to the Jurassic Coast, they are versatile and suitable for study right up to A-Level/Higher Grade requirements. Modules are tailor made to meet the needs of the five major exam boards - WJEC, OCR, Edexcel SQA and AQA.
