A partner centre on the shore of Lake Serre Ponçon in the Southern French Alps. The centre's position provides the backdrop for an excellent range of challenging field studies modules incuding human geography, physical geography, geology and biology.
The largest man made lake in Europe is an excellent starting point for a range of human geography projects including hydro-electric power and human impact on conservation of the National Park. There are many examples of the impacts of tourism - ranging from river rafting, hiking and camping to large international ski resorts.
Studies of glaciation and geological investigations are aided with examples of hanging valleys, outwash plains and dramatic evidence of scouring, kettle holes, house-sized moraine and sedimentary rock folding. Biologists will undertake ecological enquiries, comparing alpine flora and fauna to that seen in the UK.
