Overseas Field Studies Courses
As well as Field Studies courses at our UK centres, PGL now offer more intensive courses at some of our centres in France.
Our newest courses are at PGL Domaine de Segries in the Ardèche and PGL Camping la Clapière in the Southern Alps.
Camping la Clapière is near the ancient fortified town of Embrun, which sits on a rocky outcrop on the shores of the man-made Serre Ponçon lake in the glaciated Durrance valley within the stunning foothills of the southern French Alps. Known as the 'Nice of the Alps' due to its mild climate, Embrun is none-the-less within easy reach of the high mountains of the Ecrins and close to several ski resorts. The National Park (Parc les Ecrins) is a short journey away as is the historic city of Briançon.
Domaine de Segries: The stunning landscape of the Ardèche is characterised by dramatic limestone gorges cut by rivers at the end of the last Ice Age. The green, fertile farmland is famous for chestnut plantations and cottage farming. A hilly area, on the doorstep of the mountainous Massif Central, the Ardèche boasts volcanoes and woodland, castles and cottages, history and holidays.
Courses offered at these centres are suitable for Scottish standard and higher levels, GCSE and A-Level studies. Subjects covered range from Glacial landscapes to tourism and environments - modules of human and physical geography, geology, history and biology are available.
