 PGL Tours in Brittany

Brittany will delight first-time visitors to France with its picturesque fishing villages, historic towns and a rich cultural heritage, including maritime treasure St Malo, medieval Dinan and the Breton capital, Rennes.

The region has a unique cultural heritage – the Breton language, costumes and music are still alive in the area today, although these days the costumes and music feature mainly at local festivals. The black and white Breton flag: The "Gwenn ha Du" can still be seen flying almost everywhere in Brittany.

Over the centuries the area was the site of many battles to repel invaders and as a result a defensive ring of fortifications and castles was constructed - evidence of which can still be seen today - often in the older sections of the larger towns and along the coast.

Traditional cuisine in Brittany is largely based around seafood - nowhere more so than in Cancale, famed for its oyster farms. However for those who do not like seafood, the Bretons are also famous for their sweet and savoury pancakes.
