Educational Tours : The Loire

PGL Tours in the Loire area

The Loire Valley offers an exciting introduction to French culture; it became known as the ‘garden of France’ due to the very fertile land along the river and consequently its rich vineyards.

In the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the Loire valley was favoured by the Kings of France, who have left their legacy with a wealth of magnificent châteaux. Although King Henri IV finally moved the court to Paris, much of the region’s beautiful architecture has been well preserved.

In contrast to the historical attractions of the region, many groups also travel to the spectacular Parc du Futuroscope on the outskirts of Poitiers. Futuroscope is a high-tech wonderland offering a fantastic educational experience which covers a wide range of cross-curricular interests. Highlights of the park include the new Robot Zoo containing giant interactive animals, and the evening light show ‘Forest of Dreams’. Extensive educational support is available including preparation notes for teachers, pre-visit coursework, project work for the visit and follow-up assignments.

PGL offers a variety of excursions to places of interest in the Loire area, whether you are looking for a regional French experience, or a cross-curricular focus. Our helpful tour advisors can help you create an itinerary and will be able to supply you with information on all of the popular excursions in the area.
