Educational Tours : Swiss Alps
The Saas Tal, one of the finest areas for field studies in Europe, is a hanging valley lying above the magnificent Rhône Valley. The surrounding area has been shaped by glacial, hydrological and gravitational processes. The steep landscape has meant that village development has been limited and the number of inhabitants is relatively low.
Despite the low population, year-round skiing tourism ensures that there is constant activity in the area, which supports the communities in the resort towns. There are more industrial settlements and wine producing areas in the nearby Rhône Valley itself and the whole area offers students enormous variety in terms of human geography.
Course Information
Our Alpine Field Studies course provides excellent opportunities for practical fieldwork and builds up relevant case studies for examination and coursework purposes. Study packs for both teachers and students will be supplied prior to the trip.
The spectacular mountain landscape provides many superb locations to carry out hands-on fluvial, glacial and biogeography studies. All in all, an excellent field studies location for both human and physical geography.
This course includes a PGL Field Studies Course Representative, who will liaise with coach drivers, hotel managers and any activity providers on your behalf, and advise on sites of interest and local area information. Your Course Representative will provide field studies equipment, set up classroom facilities and can even lead the teaching sessions in the field if required.
