News and Media: Kelly Holmes supports the School Sports Initiative
19 November 2006

Girls from school sport partnerships around the regions helped Double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, - the National School Sport Champion – in a new campaign called Norwich Union GirlsActive at two events held at PGL Boreatton Park on 2nd November and Marchants Hill on 9th November 2006.
The aim of the campaign, launched by Norwich Union and Youth Sports Trust, is to help engage more girls in sporting activity and representatives from around 50 school sport partnerships in the regions were challenged by Holmes with what they would change in their own schools to make sporting activity something they would want to participate in.
Three schools were selected from these two events and one other taking place in England for Norwich Union GirlsActive personal “makeover” visits by Dame Kelly. The winners will also accompany her to discuss the findings with key government representatives with a view to helping the government achieve its school sports targets. The long-term ambition is – by 2010 – to offer all children at least four hours of sport made up of at least two hours of PE within the curriculum and two to three additional hours of sport provided through a range of school, community and club providers.
PGL work closely with Youth Sports Trust, we support all initiatives that encourage children to enjoy healthy exercise and were delighted to be the location for two events.
Boreatton Park near Shrewsbury, Shropshire and Marchants Hill near Hindhead, Surrey are two of our most popular school residential break locations due to their range of indoor and outdoor adventure activities for children. Facilities have been expanded recently at both centres as part of a £multi- million investment programme.
