News and Media: Curriculum Changes and Your PGL Educational Trip

11 July 2008

Since the announcement of changes to the National Curriculum we have received a number of queries on how our educational products are affected. In order to continue to provide high quality, relevant experiences, our courses will continue to evolve in line with these changes.

How will we achieve this?

Product Development:
Improvement and adaptation of products has always been an ongoing part of our business - any new courses and products that we produce will take into account the changes to the curriculum, so that party leaders can be sure that our courses are relevant to their needs.

Tailoring courses:
We have long prided ourselves on our ability to tailor our courses and provide for specific academic and learning requirements. The changes to the curriculum will have no impact on this continued ability.

The changes will mean that the requirements of the majority of secondary schools may be different – particularly their aims and objectives for a course and the detailed academic content they wish to cover - however, we will still be able to make any adjustments requested to course content, programmes and session/course detail.

Learnlinks:
The new format will include new headings as follows:
• An importance statement describes why the subject matters and how it can contribute to the aims of the curriculum
• Key concepts identify the big ideas that underpin the subject
• Key processes identify the essential skills and processes of the subject
• Range and content outlines the breadth of subject matter from which teachers should draw to develop knowledge, concepts and skills
• Curriculum opportunities identify opportunities to enhance and enrich learning, including making links to the wider curriculum.

Our current Learnlinks include all of this information but currently use the 2007 format. This means that in practice, the above sections are present but have different titles. We are undertaking to get our learnlink information reformatted, please bear with us while we make these changes.

As always, specific questions can be directed to us on 0870 143 0143
