Ardèche adventure

for Brownies and Guides

The outdoors at its most inspirational

Delight in the crystal-clear waters of the Ardèche River.
Wonder at the spectacular cliffs and breathtaking landscape.
It’s the only way to experience the full impact of this beautiful part of France: from an open canoe.

This is an amazing chance for your Girl Guides to be inspired on their own journey of discovery. Learn and develop skills - even achieve a canoeing qualification.

But most of all, it’s the glorious memories they’ll bring back; the motivation and determination to succeed, knowing what they’ve achieved in such a short space of time and the self-assurance they’ll bring home with them.

Because exploring the hidden wonders of the stunning Ardèche Gorge from the river, with the encouragement of our expert instructors, will make the memories that last a lifetime.

Activities

River Adventure
The 19 mile canoe trip along the Ardèche River takes place over 2 or 3 days and includes the chance to camp out beside the river, sleeping below the stars on an overnight bivouac. You’ll learn the basics required to take your canoes downstream, before setting off in small groups, each with a dedicated instructor who will help each Girl Guide develop trust and confidence with plenty of help, support and encouragement.

Land Adventure
For the rest of the week, the programme is full of further land-based adventure. Whether it’s a mountain biking expedition through the hillside, an exploration of the caves that surround the river Cèze or a trek along the shore to experience the breath-taking waterfalls you’ll find at the Cascades du Saudatet, your Guides will experience the Ardèche at it’s best.

You choose the location to suit your requirements. Each of our centres are packed full of on-site adventure activities to ensure you get even more value from your time away.

An Excursion Day
We pause the activities for one day to give you the chance to discover the local area and places of interest - or keep the action up with a trip to a local water park perhaps?

Fun-packed Evenings
After an action-packed day of discovery, your guides will love our lively evening activity sessions – they’re sure to keep everyone entertained!

Learning outcomes

Girl Guides taking part in this course will benefit from increased confidence and will have the opportunity to develop key skills such as leadership.

Travelling abroad delivers improvements in many other areas such as self-reliance, taking responsibility, becoming more independent and developing a positive attitude.

Girls will build confidence by challenging themselves and overcoming fears with the support of their friends, leaders and our staff.

An adventure overseas can also provide inspiration for other areas of academic learning.

Girls learn the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and keeping active.

Awards & Qualifications – your girls can work towards specific NGB awards to achieve an official, widely recognised qualification:

  • British Canoe Union Paddlepower Awards
The Paddlepower Start award – designed for beginners, this is ideal for girls just starting out on the water.
  • Paddlepower Passport - includes four progressive levels that cover Safety Awareness, Paddling Skills, Varied Experiences, and Supporting Knowledge.
