Building Friendships at PGL

This amazing video shows how important it is to have the support of others. Children now, more than ever need friends. Families are becoming smaller, children have fewer siblings or cousins and both children and adults are communicating more and more using technology rather than face to face, so although contact may be more frequent, the quality of that contact is not as great.

There is even evidence that children who have lots of friends at school earn more in later life, are better able to understand emotions and create strong, lasting relationships.

A PGL adventure can help children form new friendships and learn how to work and live alongside others. When asked what was the best thing about their holiday, many children say that it was making new friends.

At PGL there is little time for phones or tablets (we don't recommend bringing them either!) and there is lots of face to face interaction. As well as trying new activities, children are learning the skills of compromise needed when sharing a room with others, recognising each other's strengths when working as part of a team and helping to support each other when facing challenging situations.

If research is correct then the long term impact of this can be enormous and judging from the video, the immediate impact can be pretty amazing too!
