Ski Leader Guide
Why Leaders choose PGL Ski:
One of our friendly, helpful and experienced ski tour organisers will take responsibility for the smooth-running and coordination of your ski course, from the initial enquiry and planning stages through to your return. A large part of their role is listening to you and helping you to make the right decisions to ensure that we meet the needs of your group. Of course we make every effort to ensure continuity of contact throughout your booking.
It is usual to hold an information evening before your trip and reassure parents that you have entrusted your trip to a quality operator. We can provide support and information to help make your evening run smoothly. If you are booking with us for the first time we may be able to attend your parents’ evening for added reassurance.
We have a wide range of resorts specifically chosen for their suitability for school groups. From the ever-popular resorts in Austria, to the traditional charm of Switzerland, we have something to suit everyone.
No two groups are the same, and while one Party Leader prefers a sole occupancy, 3-star hotel away from the bustle, another wants to be in the middle of town in the relaxed surroundings of a youth hotel. Whatever kind of resort or accommodation you are looking for, PGL can provide it. Our experienced Tour Organisers are always happy to listen to your needs and help you to make the right decision. Of course, all our accommodation is inspected and audited to meet School Travel Forum standards.
We have an online booking management facility called ‘My PGL' which provides you with a range of essential information to make organising your school trip as easy as possible. Access and monitor your booking details and download forms and documents required to administer your booking including:
- Insurance Policy Documents
- Risk Assessments
- Safety Management System
- Party Leader Booking Guide
- Parent Consent Forms
- Names List and Final Forms
Once you have made your provisional booking you will receive an email which will allow you to access your booking details online in the ‘My PGL’ area of our website. You will also receive a Party Leader’s booking pack which includes:
- Party Leader Booking Guide: a step-by-step guide on how to organise your trip with helpful tips and a description of what you will receive from PGL at each stage of the booking process.
- Additional resources including our Safety Management System booklet and a letter template to send out to parents to promote the trip.
Our excellent service doesn’t stop when you leave the UK – we don’t want an unexpected issue to cause you a problem after all the preparation. We provide the best levels of support for you while you are away.
- A trained PGL Representative is dedicated to your group.
- A 24 hour PGL Ski emergency helpline operates while you travelling and when you are in resort for your peace of mind.
- Most groups receive a personal visit from one of our Head Office staff, who travel to the ski resorts to experience how your tour is running at first hand.
All our prices include the hire of good quality specialist equipment. Our contracts with all our suppliers of ski and boarding equipment lay down high standards, so that you receive modern, serviced equipment which is provided and fitted by experienced technicians.
Tuition is provided ONLY by fully qualified instructors from locally registered ski schools. For ski groups tuition is provided in the ratio of 1 instructor to every 12 students, but should you wish to book an additional instructor to cover any particular needs or split of ability within your group, please contact us for details. Teachers on free places are not included in this ratio, as they often move between classes. Included in our prices are six 4 hour ski lessons (except in the USA where it's 4 hours a day for 5 days). Additional instruction is available at a supplement.
For snowboarding the ratio of qualified instructors to learners is 1:8, and therefore snowboarding supplements are payable to account for this, as well as the cost of equipment which is also higher. However, in the USA snowboarding is often provided for the same price as skiing – please check with us when you book.
Our snow guarantee applies to all groups who travel by coach, and ensures that if the ski school takes the decision that you cannot ski, PGL will transport you to a nearby resort and cover the cost of your ski school and lift passes. If this is not feasible, we will compensate you at a rate of £15 per person for every full day’s lost skiing.
All of our hotels provide full board accommodation; breakfast and evening meals are provided in the hotel and packed lunches are provided to be eaten on the mountain. Some of our hotels that are in close proximity to the slopes offer a one course hot lunch as an alternative to a packed lunch (supplements sometimes apply). If this is not offered at your chosen hotel but you still wish to have hot lunches, this can often be arranged through a mountain restaurant at a supplement. Please contact your Tour Organiser if you require this and they will assist you with the arrangements.
There is plenty of scope for free evening entertainment based at your accommodation - for example, a quiz night, a treasure hunt, a games night and so on, which your PGL Representative will be happy to organise for you. When you arrive at your accommodation your rep will help you plan your week’s activities.
The last evening before you leave is generally reserved for presentations and awards, often in conjunction with the ski school.
In addition to the above you may wish to organise activities local to your accommodation, such as ice skating or bowling. Details of activities available in your resort will be sent to you prior to your trip, and many can be booked before you travel. Alternatively your PGL Representative can arrange this for you in resort. These type of activities are usually at an extra cost.
