Established in 1957, we are the UK’s leading children’s adventure holiday company. Our expertise, safe environment and unrivalled pastoral care mean that we are trusted and respected by schools and families nationwide.
Our beginnings
Back in 1957, Peter Gordon Lawrence bought a folding canvas canoe and set off down the Danube. He loved this experience so much he wanted to share it. Returning home, he began leading groups of young adults on canoe camping trips down the River Wye – and PGL was born! Sadly Peter died in 2004 but his original passions still live on today, in a growing and thriving organisation and the generations of children who have benefitted from what he created.

The best centres
We have 15 fantastic adventure centres throughout the UK and abroad. All our centres are constantly being updated with the latest and most exhilarating activities. Unlike many other companies, we own or have long leases on all our UK and French centres. This means that we never have to hold back on investing in what’s needed or wanted by our guests to make them better and can create exactly the right environments for our holidays.

PGL children and teenagers love our holidays – they experience exciting new activities, learn impressive skills, make lots of friends and develop greater self confidence. Meanwhile you can relax, knowing they’re in great hands and completely involved from dawn to dusk.
No need for nerves!
To help every child get the most from each experience and bring out the best in your child, we tailor our holidays to suit different age ranges. We also look after children in small groups, giving them all the individual attention and instruction they need.
Group sizes
Groupies look after groups which vary in size according to age. For 8-11s the ratio is 1:12, with a lower ratio for older children. Instructor to child ratios vary according to the activity, but here are some examples:
- Canoeing 1:8
- Archery 1:4
- Pony trekking 1:8
- Abseiling 1:1
For off-site activities there are always at least two staff in attendance.
