You’re in safe hands with PGL

No risk is an acceptable level of risk, which is why we go beyond to ensure every young person is always in safe hands.

Everything we do is built on five protective pillars:

Safe people banner

Safe People
All our staff are rigorously selected for their capabilities, DBS checked. fully trained and continually assessed to ensure they meet the highest safety standards possible.

Safe places banner

Safe Places
Our sites and buildings are managed to reduce all possible risk before any child arrives. including segmented accommodation, secure perimeters and stringent equipment standards.

Safe spaces banner

Safe Spaces
Every child is different so to make our environments as encompassing as possible every colleague is SEND trained. we offer language inclusivity and offer over-and above access for all We also operate a zero-tolerance policy on illegal practices.

Safeguarding banner

Safeguarding
Trained to act as ‘first-responders’ to safeguarding red flags, PGL colleagues are versed in spotting risks (across mental health. self-harm sexual and physical wellbeing) and acting quickly to escalate any concerns or stop harmful behaviour.

Safe travels banner

Safe Travels
Every travel partner with whom we work is vetted to ensure they have strict safety management systems in place. specifically focused on travelling with young people. We also aim to ensure travel provision is adaptable to the needs of every single child.

FAQ

What’s included in the cost of the PGL trip?

Included in the cost of the camp at Little Canada are your accommodation, activities, equipment and food and drinks. Everything is covered in the cost per person!

What happens in the evenings?

In the evening the fun continues! We have a fantastic entertainment programme for the evenings where we’ve got discos, campfires, quizzes and more! If you want more singing around the campfire, then just let us know and we can plan that into your itinerary. We’re here to create the perfect schedule for you and your group.

What should I pack for my child's overnight stay?

For your child’s stay at Little Canada, you should pack:

  • Tops/t-shirts (for daily adventure activities)
  • Trousers/leggings (for daily adventure activities)
  • Evening clothes (for discos, quizzes, evening games and more)
  • Towels
  • Toiletries

For a complete list of everything you should pack in your child’s bag, see our packing guide.

Does my child need waterproofs for their residential trip?

Yes, waterproofs are very important and will help to keep your child dry in our water activities like Dragon Boating, as well as if it starts to rain while we’re all out enjoying the epic outdoor adventure activities!

Does my child need to bring money?

Money is not a necessity, but if they’d like to buy a souvenir from our shop on-site then they will need cash or a pre-paid card. We suggest around £10 per child. Our gift shop has a great selection of PGL goodies such as hats, mugs, t-shirts, pens, teddy bears and more! If your child has come to Little Canada with their uniformed group, then they can also get a badge to take home with them.

Can I contact my child during their camp stay?

Yes, no problem. If your child is bringing their mobile phone to Little Canada, they can call you during their free time (these times are outlined in our Mobile Phone Policy). If they’re not taking a phone to camp then they can just ask a member of the PGL team to call home and they’ll get that sorted. If you need to speak to your child for any reason, you can always call the Little Canada Centre or the contact numbers provided by your child’s group leader.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

We do cater for special dietary requirements. Whether for religious, cultural or medical reasons, we can support your child’s or anyone in your group’s diet. When you book, just let us know and we’ll take it from there. We regularly provide meals for coeliacs, diabetics, guests with food allergies and vegetarians/vegans.

What safety measures are in place at Little Canada?

We have a huge emphasis on safety, starting with the recruitment of our staff and continuing through to all of our activities. As a founder member of BAPA (British Activity Providers Association) and a licence holder for activities in scope of AALA (Adventure Activities Licencing Authority) regulations, we make safety our priority.

A risk assessment has also been carried out at Little Canada with risks being outlined and managed. The risk assessment covers the grounds of Little Canada, as well as all of the activities available at the centre.

Our Activity Instructors are experts in their area, trained and assessed both in-house and by external assessors. They’ll be there during every activity to make sure they’re completed safely and correctly.

New staff complete a comprehensive induction and job specific training followed by regular observations, feedback, reviews and assessments.

Is there parking available at Little Canada?

Yes, on-site parking is available at our Little Canada centre.
