for secondary schools
Hillcrest activity centre offers a rural retreat, close to the River Wye in Herefordshire. It’s a relatively small centre, ideal for secondary groups looking for sole occupancy.
There’s plenty of adventure activities in the grounds for your students to take advantage of and a large lake nearby which we use for a wide range of fantastic watersports.
Whether it’s the thrill of a dragon boat race, testing their skills in a kayak or building a raft that makes it to the other side of the lake in one piece, there’s all the water adventures your students will love.
There’s plenty to do on land too. Why not try some abseiling, rifle shooting or a forest trail for some great learning outside the classroom opportunities?
Accommodation at Hillcrest is in the main house and we have some excellent facilities including a basketball court and floodlit playing field to use between activity sessions.
- Students - Rooms with bunk beds sleep 6-16 (Showers and toilets located close by)
- Teachers - Single or twin rooms, en suite or with private facilities nearby
- Basketball court
- Floodlit playing field
- Indoor space
- Group common room
- Teachers’ lounge

Even though Hillcrest is a small centre, there's plenty of choice when it comes to activities for your Secondary School group including watersports.
These include canoeing on the beautiful River Wye and canoeing, kayaking and dragon boating at our very own private lake nearby.
The full list of activities is included below.
There's plenty to keep everyone busy in the evenings too with our lively evening entertainment programme led by the PGL team.
Balanced, great-tasting meals
We’ve got plenty of hot and cold food options for your students to choose from and all our meals are freshly cooked at every mealtime.
Soup and salad – a meal in itself
Our salad bar is always busy at mealtimes and provides a wide choice of healthy, nutritious salad choices for your group. There’s also homemade soup available every day and lots of fresh fruit – they can help themselves!
For the more particular
We’ll do our best to cater for any dietary requirements your students may have. Our catering team will always find something to suit. For those students who just want a bit more, just ask us – we always have extra food available.
