Social skills are super important for the growth of your kids! From communicating with others to working in groups and as part of a team, these are all valuable life skills that help with your child’s development.

How to develop social skills in kids

Some of the best social skills activities for kids involve more people. The more people that are involved, the more opportunity to develop social skills by communicating with others.

Interaction with others

Any kind of interaction with other children is perfect! Whether that’s at a club, at school, or even on a PGL adventure. Encouraging them to speak to other people and get involved allows them to venture out and have a range of conversations with their friends, each providing a unique experience!

Play games

Games and other kinds of group activities are great for developing social skills. Imagine your little one navigating their way through the games and activities where cooperation is the key to success. Teamwork begins to come naturally as they collaborate to succeed in the challenge together! Leadership skills are also developed as they take charge of a plan and encourage other team members. And of course, let’s not forget about respect — one of the most important social skills there is! Whether they’re waiting patiently for their turn or telling somebody else well done, any kind of game where multiple people are involved fosters good sportsmanship.

Group story session

Gather around the living room for a fun evening of storytelling. This is an exciting activity that can be played with 2 or more people. So you and your child, and/or anybody else that would like to get involved! The aim is to create a story as a group, with one person starting off the tale, and then taking it in turns to add to the narrative. It is a fun and unique activity that encourages active listening, respect for everybody’s creative input and collaboration.

Family games night

Turn your living room into a games zone for the night! Get out all of your card games, board games and anything else you might have, and enjoy a night of competition. While playing, you can emphasise the importance of teamwork to boost those social skills to the max! It’s a fantastic way to see the leadership and cooperation in your child grow.
