We always put safety first on school trips at PGL. With processes and procedures in place to prevent incidents and act on them if they do, you can rest assured that all students will have a safe trip. So, how exactly do we ensure school trip safety? Here’s how.

First Aid

All of our centres have appropriate equipment, facilities, and fully trained first-aiders in line with The Health and Safety Regulations 1981. In the instance of an injury or illness, we have everything needed to provide guests with immediate attention.

All of our instructors are qualified in first aid too. So if there were any injuries during an activity, they’re there to act quickly.

Fully trained instructors

As well as being fully first aid trained, our instructors are experts in their area. They are trained and assessed both in-house and by external assessors, ensuring that they are competent in delivering activities. Our instructors are there to ensure all activities are completed safely, by guiding students through the challenges and games as well as giving safety briefings.

Fire procedures

In case of an emergency, we have a clear fire procedure to follow that ensures everyone exits buildings safely. This includes familiarising yourself with fire assembly points and emergency exit routes. Your group will take a tour around the site on arrival, so you can show students where the designated meeting point is in case of a fire.

Operating standards for activities

Lots of review and assessment goes into our activities. They’re reviewed yearly by a technical expert to make sure they meet our operating standards and best practices. We keep them updated on this basis so we can determine if any changes are needed based on recent developments.

Risk assessments

We take great care in making sure our risk assessments are completed effectively with no stone unturned. Any potential risks found are either removed (where possible) or reduced. In areas where the risk cannot be completely eliminated. We’ll make sure all the necessary precautions are taken to avoid accidents, illness, and injuries.

Our food allergy policy

Allergies are certainly not something to be overlooked. We ensure this doesn’t happen at PGL with our food allergy policy. It’s constantly updated to help minimise the risk of exposure. The objectives of the policy are:

  • To promote food allergen awareness to staff, guests and visitors at PGL.
  • To provide clear guidance to all our catering team on their responsibilities for the provision of food to anyone who may have a food allergy, food intolerance or other food-related medical needs.
  • To ensure that relevant food allergy training and food hygiene training are provided for all catering staff.
  • To ensure appropriate information and support is available for catering staff and customers.

Inspection and verification

For decades our centres at PGL have undergone external verification. We pride ourselves on providing a fun adventure for children that ensures safety to the highest standard. Here are some of the organisations that we’ve received verification and accreditation from:

  • Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge (LOtC)
  • The British Activity Providers Association (BAPA)
  • Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA)
  • National Governing Bodies such as the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), British Canoeing, and British Cycling.
  • Ofsted
